Truro Carnival 2009

Truro Carnival Fun Day took place from 12 o'clock on Saturday 12th September 2009 and Hendra Field was alive with the buzz of children enjoying activities including a bouncy castle, face painter, children's fairground ride and a free art tent where children could make carnival crowns, many families attended and enjoyed a day of sunshine and fun.

A free prize draw for a family ticket to the Eden Project was also held during the day and the winner announced by Atlantic FM's Victoria Leigh was Louise Rail from Truro.

Entries for the carnival procession were accepted all day and members of the Carnival Committee were kept very busy in the registration tent.

Judging took place at 4.30 followed by an awards ceremony announced by the Truro Town Cryer Mr John Sweetman and with awards being presented by the Truro Mayor Mrs Ros Cox.

The Carnival Procession boasted over 200 people who led a colourful path through the city of Truro to be greeted by literally thousands of spectators.

Floats and walkers added their own special touches to the procession with entries such as the Truro Army Cadets and Air Cadets marching through the streets, Truro College providing their usual vibrant touch and the regular and always adorable children from Happy Days Nurseries who were dressed as vegetables and pushed in wheelbarrows.

A highlight to this year’s carnival was the welcome return of the Carnival Royalty section which included visiting royalty from all over Cornwall.

The Truro School of Samba celebrated their 5th anniversary by adding their spectacular dancers and music to the finale of the parade, they then followed this with an evening of dance and music on Lemon Quay.

A provisional date for the 2010 City of Truro Carnival has been set for Saturday 11th September. For more details please visit www.trurocitycarnival.com
